The trading of ornamental fish in Malaysia has begun in the 1950s in the south Johor area.

The primary activity was collecting the wild-growing ornamental fish and sending to Singapore.

Ornamental fish started exporting to European market at the end of 1940s.

The quantity demanded of ornamental fish in European market has occupied about 50% among globally demand and reached to peak level in winter because European people can gain consolation by admiring and keeping tropical fishes in a cold environment.

The ornamental fish breeding in Johor has occupied as high as 75% in Malaysia because Johor is geographically adjacent to Singapore who is the big exporter of ornamental fish, thus local breeders in Johor can export globally via the channel of Singapore.

Hikari brand has been sold in Malaysian market for many years and with very high visibility and very aggressive price.
